I’m Patricia Abbott, a registered Speech-Language Pathologist here in Calgary. I grew up in Edmonton and completed both a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Masters of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alberta. I’m passionate about supporting families and their children to become the best communicators they can be!
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed working with people of all ages in hospitals, clinics, schools and in the community. During this time, I’ve realized that every human being has a deep desire to make connections and that communication is the key to making those connections. I strive to cultivate a warm rapport with my families and am committed to being a positive force for change while using proven, personalized and creative approaches. Helping people to make connections is incredibly rewarding and that’s what’s great about being an
S-LP!
When I'm not working as an S-LP, I love to be outdoors hiking, biking, backpacking, doing yoga and spending time with family and friends.
We all learn best when we are happy and engaged so I believe whole-heartedly in using a play-based approach to therapy. I will weave your child's goals into sessions crafted around a variety of activities and games while taking your child's interests and preferences into account. Older children also benefit from this playful approach. Through careful attention to proven treatment methods and your child's abilities, I ensure that they experience success every step of the way. A critical part of that success is parent involvement and home practise which I also whole-heartedly encourage. Let's have fun learning together!
